Anglia Ruskin consult on New Street / St Matthew’s Street junction

The local university, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), is building on the site between Young Street and New Street – formerly the site of the Ragged School and CRC – for their Faculty of Health, Social Care & Education. The designs of the Young Street campus can be seen here and here.

As part of the development, ARU need to make improvements to New Street and the junction with St Matthew’s Street (next to the Crown Court). A map of the plans is here (pdf). They plan to:

  • Replace the existing mini-roundabout with a raised T-junction, from June until September 2013
  • Introduce planting and upgrade the parking bays, in early 2015 after the Young Street campus is complete

They are holding a consultation with local residents and businesses on these plans on Saturday 18 May 2013, 2-4 pm, at St Matthew’s Church Hall on St Matthew’s Street. Plans are also on display in ARU’s Helmore Building, East Road, until 31 May. They will then finalise plans with the County Council.

More details are on their website, and you can comment by emailing newspaces@anglia.ac.uk or phoning Paula Langton of ARU’s Estates and Facilities Services on 0845 196 4666.
