We are delighted to be able to share that we are a part of the new community partnership which will run the Community Centre that will be built as part of the ‘Ironworks’ housing scheme on the former Mill Road Depot site. Together with Romsey Mill we worked collaboratively to submit a successful tender, to secure an initial 11-year lease to run the new community building for local residents and community groups to use.

As many local residents will be aware this has been something PACT has been working towards for some years and will know how important it is to us that we have been able to secure this space as a community centre for Petersfield and surrounding areas.

The new centre is being funded by S106 developer contributions, will be fully accessible, and will provide much needed community facilities and meeting spaces, including:

  • A large hall for community events
  • Meeting rooms
  • A community kitchen, and
  • An outdoor space.

The centre will be built in the final phase of the Ironworks scheme and is due to open in August 2021. The council has appointed an operator for the building at this early stage so that they can help to inform the specification for the individual spaces in the new centre. We are excited to be able to help shape the development of the centre to fit with community requirements.

In addition to the new community centre, the scheme will include 236 homes, 50% of them new council homes.

We are very grateful for all the work Romsey Mill has put into our successful application and look forward to working closely with them in the future.

We look forward to sharing more with you later in the year about this exciting development and how you can be involved in continuing to develop Petersfield and the surrounding areas into an active and thrieving local community.
