For the past eleven years we have held an annual Summer Event on Norfolk Street – initially to inaugurate our Millennium Garden, for whose creation we were responsible, then to inaugurate the two mosaics which we created with elderly and disabled individuals at Cherry Trees and Ditchburn Place respectively, and thereafter because it had become a tradition…

That tradition includes live music etc provided by talented local performers (eg., the Freddie Hall Band, Coton Morris Men, Chinese Community Lion Dance), food donated by all the local restaurants along Norfolk Street, and an incredible tombola with prizes donated by local businesses in the area (over 100 businesses supported us in this way this year). The past two years we have also been privileged to have facepainting and mehndi (henna tattoos) and so on. Money raised from the tombola and charity auction have been put towards a community centre fund: the loss of the Howard Mallett Centre as our community centre was what led to PACT being founded.

This year’s Event however is due to be rather a milestone one, because for the first time, we are aiming to hold a “Petersfield’s Got Talent!” contest, with auditions and heats beginning from October 2011 and culminating in the grand finale on the day of next year’s Summer Event, on Saturday 23rd June 2012.

This means that next year’s Event, rather than being our traditional four-hour evening celebration on the third Thursday of the month, will be catapulted into being a whole day, entire-street-closed-off Event. As far as humanly possible we hope to maintain its community-based ethos and avoid it becoming a commercial exercise.

Interested? If you can spare time (as little or as much as you choose!) it would be great to have you on board, in almost any capacity. eg.,
staging
stewarding
planning
publicity
performing
delivery
experience/skills
equipment
organising
fundraising
